in the gap between the two trapeze

Ok so maybe I felt left out and wanted to put an obscure song lyric reference as my post title. Do you think I'm cooler now? Or at least more Emo?

No, for real though...Coldplay is one of my favorite bands. You probably didn't know that. Not many people do. But I have recently found particular solace in their new album, Mylo Xyloto. I might even go so far as to say they are among the most talented musicians of our time. Gasp. Big statement. Big band.

One of their songs includes the line "maybe I'm in the gap between the two trapeze." Every time I hear it, I have this crazy visual of me in a neon pink leotard with green tights (don't ask), suspended in mid air between one trapeze (undergrad) and with the next trapeze (whatever lies in my future) in sight. At first I'm still. Uncomfortably still. Too still. But then I get used to it and start to enjoy the view up there. Too late. That next trapeze is coming. And it is freeeeeeakin me out.

Have you ever heard the expression, "When it rains, it pours?" We had a thunderstorm last night. A big one. Lately, I've been having big ones, too...and it seems I'm on the brink of doing something crazy. Who knows what. But it's going to be crazy.

  2. oh hey linds-- I read this post yesterday and then had this song stuck in my head for you all day today (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiRSqhYZlWo&ob=av2e). It's not coldplay, but fits nonetheless, I think. Also, I hope your new crazy move on the horizon is one of two things 1: moving to Maui to live with me and eat mangoes or 2: moving to China. Love you much-much-mucho and miss you just as much.

  3. I think you meant to say "hipster" instead of "emo," because emo was never even that cool! I like your cryptic "thunderstorm" comment and totally got what you were saying. I wonder what other peeps are thinking?

  4. Fascinating post, Lindsey. Although, I must admit, I have no idea what an "emo" is or what the cryptic "something crazy" is that reminds you of thunderstorms. Hope whatever it is, is followed by a beautiful rainbow :)

  6. Lindsey Lou Who,
I love reading your blog, and I especially love this post! Coldplay is indeed the very very best.

If you ever feel particularly nostalgic, come back to the good ol' business office!

  7. Linds- That is EXACTLY how I feel right now, except I think my leotard is black and red. I've been thinking about you a lot lately and your last year and I wish I could ask for all of your advice right now. What would you recommend doing to keep yourself sane? How do you approach the job world? What if I'm not ready to be a real adult? But what if I'm not ready to be just a starving student anymore? Wish you were here!

    love,
    nicole
